My family has a tree farm in Pennsylvania that grows furniture quality hardwood. To date, we’ve been selling the wood by the log. But I’ve been thinking about setting up a bandsaw mill and milling the lumber myself. Should I cut the boards thick (8/4 – 12/4 and thicker) or thin (4/4 – 8/4)? Should I cut it all thick, dry it out, and re-saw smaller? What do most people want in rough sawn lumber?
