Rehabbing a Stanley 71. At some time in the past someone had done a piss poor job of sharpening the cutter. Multiple facets and grind marks on the back and bevel. Tried my go to, a 120 Shapton, and decided it needed more drastic measures. After hitting with a mill bastard file and running it over multiple sheets of 80 grit sandpaper on a surface plate, I’m still not close to getting that last bit at the bevel flat. Am I missing something, or is this some twisted form of penance, grinding a way at tool steel for all eternity, contemplating my most grievous sins?
