Want to start off by saying I’m new to this forum. Want to ask the experts before I start doing something I shouldn’t.
I’ve always been the type of guy who likes to work with his hands restoring, cleaning, collecting old anything.
As I’ve been collecting I’ve been purchasing more older tools for just displaying in my garage. My question is should you just clean the tools or are you doing damage if you go further and restore the tools. I’m talking re-staining, repainting, etc…
    Any advice is appreciated.

Welcome Jeepers! If it’s a rare or historically significant hand tool, then I don’t “restore” it, but just wipe it down. But most hand tools are common, and there’s no problem restoring them. What tools are you considering?

I agree about the rare / significant tools. Currently I have several larger hand saws, wood planes, and misc hand tools.
