I’ve been studying workbenches also and found the 16-part series by Wranglestar titled the “Poor Man’s Workbench” quite informative. He built it all by hand using construction grade lumber to start. I felt the result was quite impressive!
I also enjoyed this video from Dema. He had some neat features on his bench.
