I assume you mean a chip in front edge of the lever cap. You see this pretty often and it seems to be from use of the lever cap as a screwdriver for the blade/chip breaker screw. I haven’t found it to be a problem. If the chip is in the front edge of the chip breaker/cap iron then it can cause shavings to become wedged and clog up the plane mouth.
